There is also microwave ovens that open through a drawer similar to a cabinet. The microwave drawers can be easily reached and are ideal for small spaces.

When selecting a microwave oven combination, make sure to take into consideration how often you'll use each function. If you'll be using the oven more frequently than the micro, you might be better off buying an oven that doubles as a wall. They typically offer the most efficient cooking method than traditional wall ovens, because they use less energy. They can also be used to cook food and warm meals. This means that there is less requirement for other appliances, such as toasters or warming plates.

When evaluating possible amendments to energy conservation standards, DOE conducts several analyses, including assessment of technology and market screening analysis, engineering analysis and a national impact analysis (NIA). In this SNOPR, DOE will rely on its current engineering analysis of microwave ovens to determine the best efficiency improvements that are technologically feasible for this product category.

DOE will assess the design of a microwave with an energy performance objective that is specified in the engineering analysis. The engineering analysis will then determine the maximum improvement in energy efficiency that is technologically feasible based on the most advanced microprocessor-controlled model available on the market or in working prototypes, or the maximum reduction in energy consumption that is technically achievable with the current technologies available for this product class.

As part of NIA, DOE will assess the impacts on consumers, including the cost savings over the lifecycle, as well as the simple payback time (PBP). DOE will use its Government Regulatory Impact Model with an adaptation for microwave ovens to calculate industry net present value ("NPV").

DOE will also assess the impacts on manufacturers, and will employ an industry-specific cash flow model that is adapted to this product type to estimate manufacturing NPV. Additionally, DOE will consider the potential impact on small business manufacturers and other subgroups of manufacturers to identify any that could be disproportionally affected by these proposals.

In addition, DOE will consider whether the testing procedures for microwave ovens should be revised to include active mode energy use and an active mode energy use measure. At present, the test procedures only provide standby mode power usage.

Wall ovens rely on the circulation of hot air evenly while microwaves use waves to cause water molecules in food to vibrate and produce heat. Combination wall ovens blend these two very different appliances into one unit that helps save kitchen space and gives a sleek, modern aesthetic. But you need to carefully take into consideration your budget and goals before deciding to purchase a combination wall oven. Many of the combination wall ovens that we've rated have issues with performance or design.
